Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I would like to take this opportunity to announce the European Society of Endocrinology lecture at the ENEA congress and share with you two great social events that we will be hosting at the ENEA 2010 congress as well as a reminder of some previous news. European Society of Endocrinology Lecture at ENEA.As evidence of the collegial working relationship between the ENEA and the ESE, the ESE is hosting a special plenary lecture at the 2010 ENEA Congress. This lecture will be given by Prof. Steven Lamberts of Erasmus University, Rotterdam. A leader, colleague and mentor for many endocrinologists in Europe and further afield, Prof. Lamberts will provide us with his special insight into one of the more challenging areas of neurological and endocrine research today in a lecture entitled, "Glucocorticoid sensitivity in psychiatric diseases". Welcome Cocktail : Wednesday 22 September, Gare de Liège-Guillemins
A Cocktail Reception will be held on the evening of 22nd of September to welcome delegates to ENEA 2010. The Reception will be hosted by the ENEA 2010 Congress Local Organizing Committee and will be held within the new Gare de Liège-Guillemins Railway Station building. This impressive modern building was designed by the world-famous architect Santiago Calatrava and represents a symbol of Liège as a nexus linking the city with its many close neighbors in France, Germany, the Netherlands and further afield. The Reception will also be attended by local dignitaries and University figures to welcome you all to the Congress. Gala Dinner : Friday 24 september, Palais des Princes Evêques
(The Palais des Princes Evêques was formerly the Principality of Liège Prince-Bishops' Palace) The Governor of Liège is kindly welcoming us to the Palais du Princes-Evêques, the splendid historical palace that occupies a central location in Liège, presiding over the Place St. Lambert. We will have the chance to appreciate the varied architectural styles of this building that has its roots in the first palace raised in the year 1000 under Prince-Bishop Notger. The facade is Italian Renaissance in parts and 18th-century French while the interior is Gothic. Seeing it for the first time, author Victor Hugo said, 'Nowhere have I seen a construction so remarkable, serious and grandiose at the same time.' We believe that this will serve as the backdrop to a wonderful social evening of enjoyable conversation and good dining. For reasons of historic conservation of this magnificent venue, we are limited to hosting 200 guests. The registration to the gala dinner will be closed as soon as we reach this number so please proceed with your registration on the website www.enea2010.org if you would like to be part of this great evening. Dr. Shlomo Melmed to Give 2010 Fondation Ipsen Endocrine Regulation Prize Lecture at ENEA 2010We would like to remind you that the 2010 Fondation IPSEN Endocrine Regulation Prize has been awarded to Dr. Shlomo Melmed. Dr. Melmed, one of the world's pre-eminent endocrinologists, is Senior Vice-President for Academic Affairs, and Dean of the Medical Faculty at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, California. Mission Study: First Comprehensive ResultsThe study, "Mortality in Cushing's Syndrome: a Study (International, Observational) of ENEA" is a landmark undertaking by the membership of the ENEA, working in concert to provide a truly enormous amount of data on Cushing's syndrome patients in record time. One of the highlights of the ENEA 2010 Congress will be the presentation by Dr. Rosario Pivonello of the first comprehensive analyses of the data in approximately 5000 patients. For all members that contributed information in addition to other ENEA 2010 Congress attendees, this will be an important demonstration of the major research advances that can be made when the ENEA works together. RegistrationRegistration for ENEA 2010 is available through this website. To encourage the attendance of younger researchers, fellows and ENEA non-members we have put in place a unique package of reduced registration plus complimentary membership of the ENEA. Complimentary 1 year Membership of ENEA will be available to those that register for the ENEA 2010 Congress, which will have lasting benefits including reduced registration costs for subsequent ENEA meetings and activities. click here for details. The Organising Committee looks forward to welcoming you in September.
